19.2.2021 | The Government has submitted to Parliament a proposal for amending two sections of the Communicable Diseases Act. The amendment to section 16 of the Act concerns the right of the Regional State Administrative Agencies and physicians to decide on compulsory health examinations and the amendment to section 22 concerns the obligation of those who have or have been exposed to a communicable disease to provide information about themselves.

The programme supported earlier development work and succeeded in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in particular. The programme played an active role in implementing the ongoing reform of continuous learning at workplaces.

The act would lay down provisions on, for example the organisation of rescue services, and the system of management and coordination as well as development and oversight of rescue services.

The Government proposes that the responsibility for organising rescue services would rest with health and social services counties and the City of Helsinki. Rescue services would continue to be a separate sector working in parallel with the healthcare and social welfare sector.

29.12.2020 | Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has updated its action plan implementing the hybrid strategy to manage the COVID-19 crisis in accordance with the Government Resolution adopted on 22 December 2020. The Ministry sent a circular to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, municipalities, hospital districts and other joint municipal authorities, the Regional State Administrative Agency and the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health.

In addition to increasing vaccination coverage, effective national and regional measures to limit close contacts are needed to slow down the spread of the epidemic. The Government submitted the bill amending the Communicable Diseases Act for approval and the President of the Republic approved the bill on Thursday 9 July. The Act amending the Communicable Diseases Act will enter into force on 31 August 2020.

The information system would consist of a mobile application and a back-end system with the goal of supporting the management of the coronavirus epidemic.
