Creating a good working life together
A good working life improves wellbeing, the economic sustainability of society and the competitiveness of companies. A good working life requires that wellbeing at work, work ability and productivity be strengthened.
The Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government includes a number of projects to develop working life, and of those, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is responsible in particular for the preparation of the programmes and measures for promoting wellbeing at work, work ability and mental health at work.
The set of working life programmes consists of
- the Development Programme for Work and Wellbeing at Work (WORK2030),
- the Mental Health at Work Programme,
- the Work Ability for Finland Programme and
- the expansion of the old Work Ability Programme.
WORK2030 Programme
The WORK2030 Programme promotes both wellbeing at work and productivity. The programme continues to make the operating models developed during the previous government term an established practice in workplaces and to strengthen leadership that supports wellbeing at work and productivity.
Sets of measures 2024–2027
- Reaching, inspiring and supporting workplaces in the development of wellbeing at work and productivity.
- Establishing the concept of dialogue about the future in sectors and workplaces.
- Making leadership that supports wellbeing at work, work ability and productivity an integral part of working life.
- Supporting the preparation of the Working Life Development Strategy.
The programme is carried out in cooperation with central labour market organisations. The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health is responsible for its operational implementation.
Mental Health at Work Programme
The Government aims to reduce sick leave due to mental health reasons. The Mental Health at Work Programme emphasises the importance of preventive measures and the role of mental health as a success factor in working life and as a driver of employment.
The programme develops effective and preventive measures to support mental health at work.
The implementation of the programme will be continued by putting into practice some of the tools and methods developed during the previous government term. Tailored services will be available for young people and employees in different professional sectors. The tools and information contents for supporting work ability will be brought together in a user-friendly electronic service.
Work Ability for Finland Programme
Work Ability for Finland 2023–2027 is a work ability programme set out in the Government Programme. It aims to
- promote the working-age population’s functioning and ability to work,
- reduce the number of people retiring on disability pension and
- improve coping at work.
The programme brings together a wide range of measures for promoting work ability so that all those promoting work ability can use them. The programme also aims to improve co-agency between various actors promoting work ability.
