Ten solutions selected for digital therapies experiment – open information event to be held in November

The digital therapies experiment launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has proceeded to the pilot phase. The experiment brings together public-sector and private-sector operators to test how digital solutions fit into the daily operations of healthcare services. Of 24 applications, ten digital therapy solutions were selected for the experiment.

The selection process highlighted the solutions’ suitability for treating a disease or preventing its exacerbation, as well as its effectiveness based on research evidence. A diverse group of operators was selected for the experiment, including Elekta Instruments AB, Jamk University of Applied Sciences Ltd, Orla DTx Oy, Precordior Oy, Promedical Oy, Sensotrend Oy’s group with two different solutions, Sooma Oy, Steripolar Oy and Wellpro Impact Solutions Oy.

“We’re very pleased with the number of applications and their high quality. The chosen solutions represent a wide range of Finnish digital health expertise.  We’ve now entered the experiment’s most important stage: testing the solutions with patients and the healthcare professionals who care for them to see how the national operating model functions in daily activities, and the benefits digital therapies may produce,” says Leena Soininen, Chief Medical Officer at DigiFinland.

Experiment aims to test the national operating model

The purpose of the experiment is to develop and test a national operating model that creates uniform rules for the safe and equal evaluation, procurement, distribution and use of digital therapies in Finland. This is done through practical pilots, in which ten selected treatment solutions are used to simultaneously collect information about the suitability of individual therapies for daily use, as well as about the entire national system’s functionality and development needs.  

“As the coordinator, DigiFinland’s task is to ensure that the experiences and lessons learnt are brought together and used nationally. The experiment not only pilots individual solutions but also marks a step towards a permanent operating model for the evaluation, procurement and use of digital therapies, which supports the safe and equal development of digital healthcare in Finland,” says Jenny Vuollet, Business Unit Director at DigiFinland.

The progress of the experiment and the selected solution providers will be described in more detail in an online information event to be held on Teams on Tuesday 4 November 2025 at 13–14.  The event will discuss the digital therapies experiment’s operating model, the included applications’ evaluation, and wellbeing services counties’ participation in the experiment.  The information event, which is open to everyone, is particularly aimed at wellbeing services county professionals and managers.

In addition, a webinar discussion will be held on Thursday 11 December 2025 at 9–10, with the aim of collecting views and proposals from stakeholders for the development of a permanent operating model.

The digital therapies experiment will be carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and coordinated by DigiFinland. The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela), the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment (FinCCHTA) are also involved.  Sitra will compile an evaluation of the digital therapies experiment’s operating model, as well as recommendations and a proposal for a permanent operating model, which will be published by the end of 2026. The project’s final report will be completed in February 2027.
