The National Child Strategy invites children, young people and adults to participate — the online survey is open until 12 October
Children, young people and adults are invited to participate in preparing the National Child Strategy. The strategy is being drawn up by a parliamentary committee representing the various parliamentary groups, and will be completed by the end of 2020.
Many children, young people and families have already participated in preparing the Child Strategy in the context of work on the shared vision entitled Child’s Time — Towards the National Strategy for Children 2040, which started in 2018. The COVID-19 situation this autumn has challenged us to seek alternatives to face-to-face meetings and interviews. That is why an online survey has been published with the aim of reaching children, young people and adults widely. The survey has been prepared together with organisations, experts, and children and young people.
“It is extremely important for us to involve children and young people in preparing and implementing the Child Strategy. The exceptional circumstances caused by coronavirus have of course posed a challenge to the implementation of inclusion,” says Secretary General Johanna Laisaari.
We wish to hear the opinions of children and young people on a wide scale
The survey now launched seeks, among other things, to determine the issues about which the opinions of children and young people are known and how they have influenced matters. An earlier study found that not all children and young people had heard about their own rights. The aim now is to deepen these observations and also to consider how adults’ understanding of children’s rights could be developed as part of the Child Strategy.
“We hope that this online survey will reach as many children, young people and adults as possible,” Secretary General Johanna Laisaari continues.
The survey is published in Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian, Somali and Northern Sami, and is open until Monday, 12 October 2020.
Information about the strategy in the future on the new website
Simultaneously with the survey, a new website on the preparation of the Child Strategy is being launched. The website tells about the rights of the child and the National Child Strategy, and invites children, young people and adults to participate in its preparation.
