Sickness and rehabilitation
All people living in Finland are included within the scope of sickness insurance. Sickness insurance provides reimbursements for loss of earnings and costs of rehabilitation.
| Sickness allowance | Paid to 16-67 year olds who due to illness are unable to work. Size of allowance depends on income. |
| Costs of examination and treatment by a private doctor | Sickness insurance reimburses a portion of fees, treatment and examination for private health care, according to the Social Insurance Institution's rate. |
| Private dental treatment | Sickness insurance reimburses a portion of fees, treatment and examination for private dental treatment, according to the Social Insurance Institution's rate. |
| Medicine expenses | Sickness insurance reimburses a portion of the costs of prescribed medications that come within the system of such reimbursements. You are reimbursed for the cost of prescription medicines directly at the pharmacy on producing a Kela card. |
| Travel costs | Travel costs Sickness insurance pays travel costs for journeys to receive treatment. |
| Disability allowance | Paid to people with long-term illnesses or disability to enable them to manage with day-to-day living, take part in employment or to study. |
Rehabilitation allowance |
Paid for people undergoing rehabilitation, either by a pension insurance institution or by Kela. |
| Accidents at work, occupational diseases |
Treatment costs and loss of earnings due to accidents at work or occupational diseases are paid to employees and farmers in the form of a daily allowance, disability pension, handicap benefit, funeral grant and survivors' pension. |
