Regional social, health, and population statistics
The Sotkanet statistical database includes comprehensive statistical information and indicators on the welfare and health of the population.
The online service provides long time series of the entire country by region and municipality. Apart from information provided by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, the service includes information from Statistics Finland and the Social Insurance Institution. The service also includes key information about the population and health of European countries.
Health and welfare statistics by population group
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare maintains Terveytemme.fi, a Finnish-only website with key statistics and supervisory data on population health and welfare by region and population group.
The Statistics Finland website contains links to all Official Statistics of Finland. While the majority of OSF statistics are compiled by Statistics Finland, these also include OSF statistics compiled by other information providers.
Municipalities as promoters of health
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare produces TEAviisari, an online service that describes the role of municipalities in promoting their residents’ health and narrowing the health gap.
The Institute for Health and Welfare’s database reports allow users to choose appropriate sections in the data. The database reports also include summaries of the key data for a topic. Among other things, it is possible to prepare reports on health and welfare promotion in municipalities, access to care, and abortions.
Regional morbidity statistics
The Social Insurance Institution’s Health Barometer and map applications allow comparisons of regional morbidity at the annual level.
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare produces the National Health Index, which describes regional differences in morbidity and work disability. These regional differences are also available separately for men and women.
Alcohol use statistics
The Finnish Supervisory Agency grants, supervises and controls alcohol permits. Its register includes information about the serving and retail sales of alcohol.
Information on homelessness
The Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland (ARA) collects data on homelessness from the municipalities each year.
