Changes to departments and units in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
The new organisation of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will enter into force on 1 September.
There will be four departments instead of the current five.
- Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare
- Department for Insurance and Social Security
- Department for Wellbeing and Services
- Department for Work and Gender Equality
The Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare is an entirely new department. The Department for Wellbeing and Services will have most of the duties of the current Department for Social and Health Services and the Department for Promotion of Welfare and Health.
Gender equality issues will be combined with occupational health and safety issues. The new department will be called the Department for Work and Gender Equality.
The current Administration and Planning Department will be discontinued and its duties transferred to other departments or units directly under the Permanent Secretary.
There will be three units directly under the Permanent Secretary.
- Management Support Unit
- Administration Unit
- Communications Unit
The intention is to incorporate the current Preparedness Unit into the Department for Wellbeing and Services.
On Wednesday 28 June, the Government issued a Decree on the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, reforming the Ministry’s organisation.
