Health dimension of immigration on the agenda of informal meeting of Ministers of Health
Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Juha Rehula takes part in the informal meeting of health ministers in Luxembourg on 24-25 September. This meeting will focus on topics such as health in European economic policy, the health dimension of immigration and the directive on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare.
Health ministers will discuss the results of the directive on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare so far, and the possible measures at national and EU level needed to improve it. The directive on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare strengthens the patients' rights and improves their possibilities of receiving treatment in another EU member state. Immigration has been included on the agenda because of the current refugee and immigration situation.
In connection with the meeting, Minister Rehula will meet Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis. In the meeting with the Commissioner, topics discussed will include the decree on veterinary medicinal products related to antimicrobial resistance, and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) currently chaired by Finland.
Minister Rehula will also meet Sweden's health minister Gabriel Wikström and Norway's health minister Bent Höie in bilateral negotiations. Topics discussed with the ministers will be, for example, the alcohol strategy and Nordic cooperation in the ethical evaluation of clinical trials on medical products.
