Finland responds to the European Commission’s query under the Pilot mechanism concerning retail sales of alcoholic beverages
The Finnish authorities have responded to the query sent by the European Commission on 11 February 2021 under the Pilot mechanism concerning the regulation of retail sales of alcoholic beverages containing a maximum of 5.5 percentages by volume ethyl.
The Commission expressly requested Finland to clarify whether retail licenses were available to sellers established in another Member State who were interested in selling at distance beverages with a maximum alcohol content of 5.5% by volume.
Prior to submitting the responses, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and representatives of the European Commission engaged in constructive discussions at a remote meeting. If necessary, the Finnish authorities are prepared to continue the dialogue with the Commission on the matter.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will publish Finland’s response on its website.
