Changes to fees for passports and firearms licences
The Ministry of the Interior has issued a new decree on fees charged by the police. The amendments apply to the fees for passports and identity cards as well as for firearms licences and private security sector licences. The decree will be in force from 1 July to 31 December 2025.
These changes were made because, under the Act on Criteria for Charges Payable to the State, the fees for licences granted by the police must cover the costs incurred from processing them.
Passport and identity card prices to fall by two euros
Starting in July, the new price of a passport will be EUR 55 when applied for in person (currently EUR 57) and EUR 51 when applied for electronically (currently EUR 53). The new price of an identity card will be EUR 65 when applied for in person (currently EUR 67) and EUR 61 when applied for electronically (currently EUR 63).
Because passports and identity cards are valid for five years, many travel documents issued during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 will be up for renewal in 2025. When the pandemic began in March 2020, the number of passport and identity card applications dropped significantly from normal levels. This is reflected in the number of passports being renewed this year.
Price increases for firearms licences and private security sector licences
Starting in July, a firearms licence will cost EUR 149 (currently EUR 126). This increase ensures that the fees will be in line with the actual costs of processing the licences.
The prices of private security sector licences, such as a security steward licence and a guard licence, will also rise. Both licences will cost EUR 82 (currently EUR 70) starting in July. The prices of security sector licences will change because costs have risen and the fees collected for the licences should cover the costs incurred from processing them.
The decree will remain in force until 31 December 2025. Fees for licence services will be reassessed during the preparation of the 2026 decree.
