Liisa Siika-aho appointed as Director General of the Department for Insurance and Social Security at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
On Thursday 24 November, the Government appointed Liisa Siika-aho as Director General of the Department for Insurance and Social Security at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. She will take up her duties on 1 December 2022. The appointment is for a fixed term until 30 November 2027.
Siika-aho has served as Director of the Benefits Unit at the Ministry’s Department for Insurance and Social Security since 2015. She is one of the vice-chairs of the parliamentary committee preparing the reform of social security. Between 2008 and 2015, she served in various supervisory positions at the Social Insurance Institution of Finland and, before that, in expert positions at the Institution in 2004–2008. Siika-aho holds the degree of Master of Administrative Sciences.
The Department for Insurance and Social Security directs and guides insurance policy and is responsible for drafting social insurance and other insurance legislation. The Department handles issues that pertain to the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, earnings-related pension providers, insurance companies and other insurance institutions, the Finnish Centre for Pensions, the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution, the Seafarer’s Pension Fund, the Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre, the Finnish Patient Insurance Centre, the Employment Fund, appeal boards, and the Traffic Accidents and Patient Injuries Board.
