EU health ministers to discuss mental and digital health on 27–28 July
The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU will organise an informal meeting of health ministers in Las Palmas on 27–28 July 2023. Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso will represent Finland at the meeting. The meeting will focus on digital health and improving mental health.
On 7 June 2023, the European Commission published a Communication on a comprehensive approach to mental health. The approach integrates mental health across policies, as the risk factors of mental health problems arise in various areas of life. Cross-sectoral measures are needed to promote mental health and prevent and treat mental health problems. Finland supports this comprehensive approach.
The ministers will also discuss digital health and how health data can be used to promote health and wellbeing in Europe. The Member States are currently negotiating a Regulation on European Health Data Space. The aim of the new legislation is to help people manage their own health data and to support the use of health data in the development of health services, research and innovation. Finland supports the objectives of the proposed regulation.
No decisions will be made at the informal meetings.
