Top Conference about the Nordic Welfare Model in live webcast
How will the Nordic welfare model be affected by future challenges such as the ageing population and globalisation? In what ways can the model inspire progress elsewhere in the world?
Nordic researchers, politicians and civil servants will discuss these two important issues on 5-6 April at a conference held in Helsinki " What Role will the Nordic Welfare Model play in Globalization?" The conference is part of the programme for the Finnish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2011.
The live webcast will start today on Tuesday 5 April at 13.00. The conference can also be watched afterwards.
What Role will the Nordic Welfare Model Play in Globalization?
Nordic welfare model is regarded as a particularly successful way of tackling deep economic crises. The conference in Helsinki will analyse the Nordic model in depth and illustrate how different strategies will help it face the future challenges.
"Economic growth is affected by globalisation, which - in combination with an ageing population and increasing needs for care - represents a challenge for our tax-based welfare system," says Liisa-Maria Voipio-Pulkki, Director at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and chair of the conference. "In an international context it is all about showing how basic human values are taken seriously in the Nordic countries and how this is reflected in our welfare system."
