Sickness insurance reform

The law covering sickness insurance is being reformed to comprise two part legislation on medical treatment insurance and insurance based on income. The aim of the reform is to secure the funding of sickness benefits. The measure was passed by the government 26 May and then ratified by the President.

Sickness benefits include compensation for medicines, expenses for treatment by a doctor or dentist, examination and treatment costs, travel expenses, rehabilitation costs and medical expenses paid in EU countries. Income-based insurance covers sickness benefit, the parental daily allowance, rehabilitation fees and occupational healthcare.
