Pasi Pohjola appointed as new Director of Strategic Affairs at Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
On Thursday 14 October, the Government appointed Pasi Pohjola as the new Director of Strategic Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Pohjola will take up the position on 1 November 2021.
Pohjola has worked at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health since 2017, first as a Senior Specialist and, from the end of 2017, as Director of the Unit for Steering at the Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare. Of this time, he served as the temporary Director General of the Department for almost a year. He also has prior experience of duties at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, for example. Since the beginning of May 2020, his primary duty as the Director of the Unit has been to support the Permanent Secretary in managing the COVID-19 situation. Pohjola holds a Doctor’s degree in Social Sciences.
The Director of Strategic Affairs is the Head of the Management Support Unit and its Strategy Group. The Management Support Unit and its Strategy Group assist and support the Permanent Secretary’s activities in the Government’s strategy process, in the preparation of objectives for the Ministry and its administrative branch and in the development, implementation and monitoring of wide-ranging issues.
