New ways sought for care of older people
A new report prepared for the MSAH sets out proposals for developing the care and medical treatment needed by older people.
The report, prepared by Professor Sirkka-Liisa Kivelä, analyses the current state of care and treatment practices in light of new research findings. Kivelä states in her report that the development of care for older people requires a broad discussion on values and the creation of a new sense of community.
The report deals with the updating of basic and further training in preventing harm from pharmacotherapy and in developing the treatment of depression. It also covers general policy issues concerning older people.
In June, the MSAH organised an extensive hearing on the issue of elderly care involving a range of interest groups. The event dealt with responses to Professor Kivelä’s proposals and made suggestions for future initiatives.
