This year’s occupational health and safety week, held in the EU in late October, targeted noise and ways to prevent it. Noise is a problem in many occupations, chiefly agriculture, construction and industry.
But it is also a headache for schools, motorists, club and bar workers, musicians and phone workers. At worst it causes loss of hearing, and it is a key ingredient of stress and accidents.
In Finland, occupational health and safety week was marked by a conference in Helsinki organised by the MSAH. This looked at cooperation among different organisations to stop noise pollution, and at the implications of the new EU directive on protecting employees from noise.
