Under a new regulation that took effect from the beginning of September, doctors must inform police officials responsible for driving licenses of cases where patients are unfit to drive. The ruling concerns people applying for a driving licence as well as license holders.
The move concerns patients whose health has deteriorated permanently who themselves refuse to notify the police of being unfit to drive.
Though it is rare that a doctor will notice during a routine consultation whether a patient has become permanently unfit to drive, a specialist consultation may reveal such a change a person’s health, which is when the question of informing the police arises.
