Summary
A project aimed at enabling the cost-effective generic substitution of biological medicines in pharmacies will be lead and coordinated by a team preparing the generic substitution of biological drugs in pharmacies. The work group’s task is to determine the preconditions under which generic substitution between biological drugs can be carried out in pharmacies.
Starting points
According to the Act amending the Act on Supporting the Functional Capacity of the Older Population and on Social and Health Services for Older Persons (565/2020), a unit for service housing with 24-hour assistance and long-term institutional care, which has shared facilities and its own shift planning and operates under one supervisor, must have at least 0.7 employees per client starting from 1 April 2023. According to the central government spending limits for 2021-2024, additional costs arising from the nurse staffing level will be financed by a number of savings, one of the largest of which is the reduction of pharmaceutical services costs by EUR 60 million from 2023 onwards.
The aim is, for example, to establish a description for the generic substitution process while ensuring the IT preconditions, offering information and training for prescribers, suppliers and medicine users, and monitoring the implementation of the changes.
The term of the working group is 16 May 2022-30 April 2023.
