Minister Rehula to a Northern Dimension ministerial meeting in Berlin
Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Juha Rehula will participate in the Partnership Annual Conference (PAC) of the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS) in Berlin on Friday, 20 November. The Conference will, for example, adopt the new NDPHS Strategy, which will set out a framework for the activities until 2020.
The NDPHS aims to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent public health problems. The activities include, for example, cooperation in the prevention of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and lifestyle-related diseases, as well as in efforts to strengthen the primary health care system in the participating countries.
The ministerial meeting will also adopt a joint declaration relating to antimicrobial resistance (From strategies to action – Addressing the challenges of Antimicrobial Resistance in the Northern Dimension area), which will boost joint efforts in the NDPHS region. The best ways to prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) include exchange of comparable data and sharing of different countries' best practices.
The NDPHS is a partnership between nine countries (Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden), the European Commission and seven international organisations. The NDPHS was established in 2003.
