Measures to promote paternity leave
MSAH reports have indicted that more fathers would use their right to paternity leave if it paid to do so. Now the government is introducing measures to encourage dads to use their leave entitlement.
Fathers can expect to receive 80% of their earnings, under a 41,100€ limit, for their paternity leave and parental leave entitlements within the first 50 payment entitlement days. Parents will also be able to decide when fathers take paternity leave more flexibly than at present. Fathers have to use their leave entitlement before their infants are 16 months old. The package of measures also adjusts maternity benefits and the length of leave for foster parents. It will come into effect from the beginning of 2007.
