A new government drug policy action programme, released in early February, seeks to improve services to help people addicted to drugs are contained in the government’s latest. The programme, which runs to 2007, seeks to upgrade both the non-medicinal and drug replacement treatments available to addicts.
The aim is to ensure that by 2007 there will be enough specialised treatment services for substance abusers.
The strategy includes measures to improve the expertise of health professionals in dealing with drug addiction problems and the drug guidance training of the police. It also places special importance on the role of NGOs that provide services and expertise
