The World Health Organization WHO has published a report on concrete recommendations for measures to develop health security in Finland.
In Finland, health security work is based on an operating model for comprehensive security. The authorities, business life and organisations are together preparing for various cross-border threats.
Health threats include, for example, antimicrobial resistance, influenza pandemics and other epidemics that threaten to spread globally.
The Finnish authorities have already started to consider how the measures presented by WHO’s report can be coordinated with the different existing strategies and plans that strengthen the comprehensive security network of society.
Experts from different countries and from WHO and other international organisations evaluated in the spring of this year how well prepared Finland is to respond to different kinds of biological, chemical, radiation-related and other cross-border threats.
The preliminary results of the exceptionally extensive evaluation were published in March. Health security evaluations have already been carried out in over 40 countries.
