Taneli Puumalainen to continue as Director General of the Department for Safety, Security and Health for a fixed term
On Thursday 7 March 2024, the Government appointed Taneli Puumalainen as Director General of the Department for Safety, Security and Health at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The appointment is for a fixed term until 30 April 2027.
Puumalainen has served in the fixed-term position of Director General of the Department for Safety, Security and Health since spring 2021. Prior to his appointment as Director General, he worked as Chief Physician and Head of Unit at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare between 2014 and 2021. From 2012 to 2014, Puumalainen worked in various specialist roles at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health that were related, for example, to the national vaccination programme and the prevention of communicable diseases. Puumalainen holds the degree of Doctor of Medical Science.
The Director General of the Department for Safety, Security and Health is responsible for directing, supervising and developing the activities of the Department.
