Kari Hakari appointed as Director General of Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare
On Thursday 2 April, the Government appointed Kari Hakari as Director General of the Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
He will take up his duties on 1 May 2020. The appointment is for a fixed period until 30 April 2025.
Hakari has served as Chief Specialist at the Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Ministry since 2019, working with the preparations for the health and social services reform. In autumn 2017, he served for a short time as Head of the Unit for Steering at the same department. In 2017–2019, Hakari worked as Director of Change Management at the Ministry of Finance. His duties included preparations for the regional government, health and social services reform. He worked with the reform preparations even before that as Leader of Change at the Council of Tampere Region between 2016 and 2017. He has a long career in managerial, supervisory and project duties at the City of Tampere where he started in 1996. He holds the degree of Doctor of Administrative Sciences.
The Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is responsible for the general steering, planning and development of healthcare and social welfare in Finland.
