On 19 May, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas discussed topical EU and international issues and ways to develop Finnish-Lithuanian relations. The main topics of discussion were the situation in Ukraine and security in Europe.

“Finland and Lithuania are countries on the EU’s external border. As such, we have very similar views on the importance of supporting Ukraine and developing European defence,” said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

The prime ministers noted that bilateral relations between Finland and Lithuania are excellent.

“I see new opportunities opening up for our countries, especially around defence materiel cooperation,” said Prime Minister Orpo.

While in Helsinki, Prime Minister Paluckas also met with President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho.
