Minister for European Affairs Strand and Slovak State Secretary for European Affairs Eštok to meet in Helsinki

Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Marek Eštok will meet in Helsinki on Monday 16 June. Their discussions will focus on the current EU agenda and bilateral relations between the Slovak Republic and Finland.
Topical issues on the agenda for the meeting include support for Ukraine, strengthening European security and defence, the Union’s next multiannual financial framework (2028–), rule of law issues and EU enlargement.
“Supporting Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia’s unlawful war of aggression and upholding the rule of law are the collective duties of the European Union as a whole – only a united EU that is committed to its values can respond to the challenges of our times,” said Minister Strand.
Minister Strand and State Secretary Eštok are colleagues on the EU General Affairs Council, which is responsible for a number of cross-cutting policy areas including negotiations on the EU’s multiannual financial framework, EU enlargement and issues related to the rule of law.
