Preparation of mental health policy strategy

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has started to prepare mental health policy strategy. The strategy would extend to the year 2030. The objective of the strategy is to ensure that mental health work will continue in a goal-oriented manner.

The mental health policy strategy will include a programme for suicide prevention.

An expert group has prepared proposals for five focal areas of mental health policy guidelines:

  1. Mental health as a resource
  2. Construction of children’s and young people’s mental health in everyday life
  3. Mental health rights
  4. Broad-based services that meet people’s needs
  5. Good mental health management

The aim is to circulate the proposals for consultation in autumn 2019.
