  1. 13.5.2026 | The rescEU Medical Stockpile hosted in Finland reached its full material readiness at the end of April. All products specified in the original plan have now been purchased and stored and they are ready to go. The project was completed on schedule, thanks to seamless cooperation among the different parties.

  3. 18.3.2026 | Inom ramarna för programmet Ett gott arbete utlyses två nya statsunderstöd för att förbättra tillgången till arbetskraft och kompetensen inom social- och hälsovården. Syftet med understöden är att sprida och införa verksamhetsmodeller som visat sig fungera bra och att göra det lättare för sjukskötare som avlagt examen utanför EU och ETA att få behörighet i Finland.

  5. 6.3.2026 | The 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place in New York from 9 to 19 March 2026. Finland will be represented at the session by a broad-based delegation led by Minister Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, who is responsible for gender equality issues.

  6. 12.2.2026 | The health status of people in Finland is in many respects better than the EU average, and the service system is fairly comprehensive. However, a recent country report by the OECD and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies indicates that access to care is not realised equally in Finland. In 2024, 12.4% of those who required medical care reported that they had not received the services they needed. The share is the second highest in the EU.

  7. 22.9.2025 | The Government proposes a comprehensive reform of social assistance. The changes to be made would, for example, strengthen the obligations of recipients to apply for full-time work and primary benefits. The aim is to clarify the role of social assistance as a last-resort and temporary form of assistance, prevent social exclusion among young people and strengthen general government finances.

  8. 11.3.2026 | Kommittén för social trygghet sammanträdde den 11 mars 2026. Under mötet behandlade man utredningen om finansieringen av modellen med en enda grundskyddsförmån och diskuterade hur ungas socialskydd borde utvecklas.

  9. 3.9.2025 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is preparing a national model and indicators for knowledge-based management to support research, development, education, innovation and competence development in the wellbeing services counties.   11. 26.1.2026 | Social- och hälsovårdsministeriet begär utlåtanden om utkastet till propositionen om ändringar som förenhetligar den sociala tryggheten. I propositionen föreslås det att rehabiliteringspenningen för unga ska slopas, att bestämmelserna om förfaranden i de förmånslagar som Folkpensionsanstalten (Fpa) tillämpar ska förenhetligas och att bestämmelsen om jämkning av arbetslöshetsförmåner ska förtydligas.   12. 21.5.2025 | The employment rate of registered nurses and practical nurses is high, with more than 90 per cent of graduates finding work in the social welfare and health care sector. Unemployed nurses cannot be relied on to respond to the future labour shortage in the sector. People who have sought employment in other sectors represent the most significant resource of unutilised workforce. Some relief can also be provided by pensioners for whom working is increasingly common.

  13. 13.11.2025 | A national collaboration model is being proposed for Finland to strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders in clinical research and make it easier for patients to access new treatments. The FinTrials collaboration model also aims to strengthen Finland’s position as an attractive country for clinical trials and increase investments in the sector. The proposal was made by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra at the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

  14. 30.3.2026 | Social- och hälsovårdsministeriet begär utlåtanden om den ändring i kunduppgiftslagen genom vilken aktörerna inom social- och hälsovården ska bli skyldiga att lämna ut sekretessbelagda uppgifter till polisen för bedömning och förhindrande av hot mot liv eller hälsa. Syftet med ändringen är att förbättra myndigheternas möjligheter att förebygga och förhindra våld.

  16. 16.4.2026 | The Government proposes amendments to the Act on Child Home Care Allowances and Private Childcare Allowances. The proposal would implement the Norwegian model for child home care allowance. The proposal seeks to promote the integration and labour market position of women with an immigrant background and to increase the participation of children in early childhood education and care.

  17. 20.11.2025 | The Government proposes amendments to the Act on Healthcare Professionals that will make it possible to receive international assistance for healthcare in different kinds of crisis situations. The aim is to facilitate and speed up the operations of humanitarian assistance providers in Finland when assistance is needed fast.

  19. 22.12.2025 | The timing and content of health checks at child health clinics and schools, and in student healthcare and oral healthcare will be regulated in future by government decree. Upper secondary level student health checks and preliminary health examinations for compulsory military service will be combined, and an electronic health questionnaire will be introduced.
