27.1.2021 | Genomitiedon eli ihmisen koko perimästä saatavan tiedon hyödyntäminen tutkimuksessa ja terveydenhuollossa yleistyy nopeasti. Tulevaisuudessa terveyden edistäminen ja sairauksien hoito suunnitellaan yhä useammin yksilöllisesti ihmisen perimästä saatavan tiedon perusteella. EU:n 1+Million Genomes -aloitteen kansallisessa kick-off -tilaisuudessa 27.1. keskusteltiin genomitiedon hyödyntämisestä Suomessa.

19.2.2021 | The amendments to the Communicable Diseases Act have been approved, and they will enter into force on 22 February 2021. They will strengthen the possibilities of local and regional authorities to take proactive and swift measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Most of the amendments will remain in force until 30 June 2021. 

1.12.2020 | Research and innovation activities in the health sector will be developed in a target-oriented way in 2020–2023. People’s health and wellbeing will be improved through research and technological development. Steps will also be taken to advance Finland’s international position as a forerunner in health sector research and innovation, investment and new business.

27.1.2021 | Användningen av genomdata, det vill säga information baserad på människans hela arvsmassa, kommer under de närmaste åren att öka snabbt inom forskningen och hälso- och sjukvården. I framtiden kommer hälsofrämjandet och behandlingen av sjukdomar allt oftare att planeras individuellt utifrån information om människans arvsmassa. Utnyttjandet av genomdata i Finland diskuterades vid det nationella kickoffevenemanget för EU-initiativet 1+ Million Genomes den 27 januari.

It is important that those who feel anxious or worried seek help in these exceptional times. Sometimes it takes courage to seek help, and it is fortunate that many have been brave enough to reach out and ask for help.

8.12.2020 | According to the government proposal, the wellbeing services counties and the City of Helsinki would be responsible for organising rescue services in their respective areas starting at the beginning of 2023. Contract fire brigades could be used to provide these services as at present. The role of central government guidance and direction in rescue services would be strengthened.

15.2.2023 | During 2019–2023, the Government’s working capacity programme sought solutions to the employment problems of people with impaired capacity to work. At the same time, the programme developed more effective services to support working capacity. The closing event of the programme on 15 February examined the employment of people with impaired work capacity from the perspective of social sustainability, inclusion and the service system.

Nevertheless, the number of cases remains relatively small at national level. The increased number of new cases is most evident in Helsinki and the Uusimaa region.

17.11.2022 | The Government proposes that the private interests of the members of the appeal boards operating under the administrative branch of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health be entered in the same register as the private interests and extra-judicial activities of judges. At the same time, the register's name would be changed to the register of private interests and outside employment. 

5.12.2019 | The Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) will meet for the last time during Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in Brussels on 9–10 December. Health ministers will meet on the first day, and ministers responsible for employment, social affairs and gender equality on the second day.

Finland, the International Labour Organization ILO, the African Union and UN Women will organise a side event focusing on social protection and the effects of climate change.

9.10.2023 | The Finnish Government proposes about EUR 16.2 billion in appropriations for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and its administrative branch for 2024. This is slightly over EUR 134 million more than in the 2023 Budget. The increase is due to needs assessment changes in pensions, for example, and to the implementation of reforms set out in the Government Programme.
