NAPE – Committee for Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

The Committee for Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (NAPE) is responsible for the coordination,monitoring and evaluation of the measures required under the Istanbul Convention in Finland. 

Istanbul Convention

The aim of the Istanbul Convention is to prevent and eliminate violence against women and violence taking place in families, protect the victims of violence and provide support services to them, and hold the perpetrators to account. The aim is also to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and promote substantive equality between women and men.

The Istanbul Convention was adopted in 2011 and it entered into force in Finland on 1 August 2015.

NAPE coordinates measures against violence

NAPE is the coordinating body required under the Istanbul Convention. Its task is to coordinate, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Convention in Finland. NAPE operates in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The Committee consists of representatives of ministries and their subordinate administration. A permanent NGO working group also operates in conjunction with the Committee and is represented in it.
