Balancing family life and work

Family leave and different organizational measures, such as  flexible working hours can help balance work and family life.

The Ministry of Social affairs and Health is responsible for developing financial benefits for families with children, as well as care arrangements for small children, so that families have alternative ways to care for their children. The aim is for family leave to be divided equally between fathers and mothers.

Balancing work and family life improves wellbeing both at home and in the workplace. It is particularly important for single parents, as well as for older workers who look after a relative at home who is sick or has a disability.

The aim is to ensure that working life can be made flexible enough to meet people's needs. Finnish social security is being developed so that it is better able to support people in different configurations of employment, study and recreation.
